After LeBlanc i sues a two-out walk to Giancarlo Stanton, its time for Ozuna to bat in the cleanup spot. Waltz mentions that Ozuna has a seven-game hitting streak, then talks about how with the promotion to the cleanup spot, the key for Ozuna is, dont try to do too much. Hutton agrees, saying, I think the biggest thing in making a move such as this, especially with a young hitter, is just to say, Keep swinging the bat the way you have been.While this is Ozunas first game in the cleanup spot in 2014, he had 41 starts as the Marlins No. 4 hitter in 2013. He might be young, but there are two important things to remember. First, where a person hits in the batting order should never have any impact on the way they approach an at-bat, with the occasional exception of a No. 8 hitter in a National League park. Situations can dictate approach, but where your name is on a lineup card should not. Second, even if you buy into the idea that lineup positions matter, Ozuna hit fifth for the Marlins in two of their previous three games. In the old-school lineup archetype, the No. 5 hitter is supposed to be an RBI guy, while the No. 4 hitter is the power man. Is there really that much difference?Ozuna strikes out. Waltz asks.The answer to this had better be, Its not a big deal at all, McGehee made his major league debut in 2008 and hes hit in all sorts of different spots in the batting order. Bonus points if Hutton knows that fifth is where McGehee has hit more than any other spot in the order in his career, including 13 games in April before he settled into a regular spot batting fourth.I dont think its gonna weigh on his mind too much, Hutton says.
