The linear stepper motor almost exclusively employs a hybrid design, with two main parts—a base (also referred to as a platen) and a slider (also referred to as a forcer). Unlike other linear motor designs, in a linear stepper motor, the platen is a passive component—a steel (or stainless steel) plate with slots milled into it. 

Linear induction motor design and construction
The construction of a linear motor is quite similar to a three-phase induction motor. For instance, imagine that the stator of the induction motor is cut and spread out flat, as shown in Figure 2. This forms the primary of the linear motor system.

When it comes to electromechanical linear actuators, integrated designs offer space savings, reduced complexity, and lower total cost of ownership with fewer parts required for repair or replacement. One such design that’s found multiple uses in medical, 3D printing, and assembly applications is the hybrid stepper motor linear actuator, which combines a ball or lead screw with a hybrid stepper motor.

Physical Properties of a Stepper Actuator
Stepper linear actuators are made up of the same core properties as a stepper motor, with some modifications. The main components of a standard stepper motor are the shaft, magnetic rotor and stator laminations, bearings, copper motor windings, and lead wires, washers, and front and end covers.
